Christine Ramirez, M.D., a pediatrician at The South Bend Clinic’s Main Campus, completed her residency at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital in Loma Linda, California. She went to medical school at Loma Linda University School of Medicine.

Having grown up in the contrasting climates of New Mexico and Michigan, Dr. Ramirez was equally diverse in her initial career considerations.  She weighed the pros and cons of becoming a teacher, nurse, social worker, veterinarian and a career in international development.  But it wasn’t until she volunteered for a medical mission trip in Costa Rica, at the end of high school, that she realized she could incorporate the principles of all her career considerations into the practice of medicine as a physician.

To pursue that goal she majored in Biology at Andrew’s University in Michigan and earned a minor in Spanish after studying for 6 months in Sagunto, Spain. Having caught “the travel bug” she went on to volunteer for medical mission trips in Mexico, Ecuador, Haiti, Lesotho and Chad during her college and medical education. It was during these trips that Dr. Ramirez became convinced pediatrics was the choice for her due to their unique medical needs and vulnerability.

Dr. Ramirez has a special interest in alternative and complementary medicine and looks forward to sharing that interest with her patients. As a bilingual physician, she hopes to reach out to the growing Spanish speaking population in the area.

While enrolled in medical school at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in southern California, she participated in multiple volunteer trips to Haiti, and helped spearhead her medical school class’s adoption of a struggling hospital in Port-au-Prince prior to the 2010 earthquake. She continues to be involved in the board of directors which manages a self-sustaining endowment for the hospital and she plans to continue volunteering there o make it a leader in healthcare for the people of Haiti.

Dr. Ramirez is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

In addition to her love of travel, Dr. Ramirez is looking forward to re-establishing roots in the Midwest. She is looking forward to exploring Michiana, be it by hiking, biking, canoeing, or some other adventurous means. She also enjoys getting her hands in the dirt and growing all kinds of fruits and vegetables, but above all, Dr. Ramirez loves to spend time with her friends and family.
