Rheumatology is a field of medicine that diagnoses and treats conditions related to the joints and surrounding tissues, such as arthritis. A rheumatologist is a highly trained medical profession that has undergone extensive training. The most common conditions treated by this type of doctor are arthritis and auto-immune diseases. Drs. Mohr and Balog also treat soft tissue conditions such as tendonitis and bursitis.

Disease Examples

There are many conditions that come under the heading of rheumatology, but the most common ones are forms of arthritis like lupus, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. Injuries, such as tendonitis and back problems, can also be treated under rheumatology.

Auto-immune

In addition to affecting the muscles, bones and joints, many diseases that are rheumatic are auto-immune. Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and scleroderma are all examples of arthritic conditions that cause immune problems and therefore affect many aspects of the body
